Keyboard shortcuts & quick create

Three shortcuts sit at the top of every screen so the things you do constantly are always one action away: a global search palette, a Quick create menu, and — if you belong to more than one practice — a practice switcher.

Global search (⌘K)

Press ⌘K (or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) from anywhere to open the search palette. The search box at the top of the screen reads “Search patients and pages” and shows the same shortcut hint.

• Patients are matched exactly. Type a patient’s name and BirthTracks looks for an exact match, the same way the roster does — the palette prompts with “Patient name (exact), or a page…”. Partial or fuzzy spellings won’t match; if nothing comes back you’ll see “Nothing matched. Patient names are searched by exact match, like the roster.”
• Pages are matched too. The same box jumps you to a page under a “Go to” heading, so you can reach a screen without leaving the keyboard.

Quick create

The Quick create menu — the + button at the top of the screen — is a shortcut to the additive actions you reach for most:

• Log a birth
• Add a patient
• Record a procedure
• Import records

Quick create is available to roles that can write records (Admin and Provider). The read-only Viewer and write-only Scribe roles don’t see it — a Scribe records births from its own single Record a birth surface instead. See the four roles.

Practice switcher

If you belong to more than one practice, a practice switcher appears at the top of the sidebar. Use it to choose which practice you are acting in; everything below it — patients, births, statistics — then reflects that practice. For a single-practice account the switcher doesn’t appear, so the sidebar is unchanged.
