Overview
BirthTracks helps midwifery practices record — or import — births and the clinical detail around them once, then turn that single record into the state paperwork you file and analytics across the whole caseload. Enter a birth once, and everything downstream falls out of it.
Who it’s for
Section titled “Who it’s for”Independent and group midwifery practices that want a single, secure home for birth records — instead of spreadsheets — and want to learn from their own data over time.
How the pieces fit together
Section titled “How the pieces fit together”The app is organized around a small set of connected ideas:
- Practice — your organization. Everything in the app belongs to a practice.
- Providers — the midwives and staff who log in. A provider can belong to more than one practice and switch between them from the sidebar.
- Patients — the birthing people in your care.
- Births — a recorded birth event for a patient, with the clinical detail you capture around it.
- Babies — the newborn(s) recorded as part of a birth.
In short: a practice has providers, who care for patients, who have births, which produce babies.
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”The signed-in sidebar is organized into two sections — Platform and Registry:
- Dashboard — your practice’s home screen, at a glance.
- Patients — add and manage patient records, with a dedicated Pregnant patients roster of who is currently due and an EDD & GA calculator.
- Births — record births and their clinical detail, follow Transfers of care out of your practice, and keep your own My birth history — your personal attendance record across every practice you have worked in.
- Procedures — record and review procedures.
- Calendar — see EDDs and appointments across the month.
- Messages — send notes to colleagues in this practice (Received, Sent, Compose), optionally tagged with the patient they concern.
- Statistics — explore distributions and comparisons across your caseload.
- Registry — Import existing records from a CSV, view Benchmarking against peer data, and generate Exports (CABC, ACNM, research).
Two shortcuts sit at the top of every screen: a global ⌘K search for patients and pages, and a Quick create menu for the actions you reach for constantly. See Keyboard shortcuts & quick create.
Who can do what — the four roles
Section titled “Who can do what — the four roles”Each provider has a role within a practice that decides what they can do:
- Admin — full control of the practice, including its settings and team membership. A practice can have more than one Admin.
- Provider — day-to-day access to the practice’s records: may read and write charts, births, imports, and exports. This is the default for a new account.
- Viewer — read-only. Sees the practice’s records (reads are still audited) but is denied every write surface.
- Scribe — a write-only seat: may record births and nothing else. A Scribe reads no charts, rosters, or exports at all.
How your data is kept separate
Section titled “How your data is kept separate”No practice can see another practice’s identified records. Each practice’s patient and birth data is walled off from every other practice’s.
Two deliberate exceptions are worth knowing:
- Your own birth history follows you, not the practice. My birth history is your personal, cross-practice attendance record — a career record that does not disappear when you leave a practice.
- De-identified data can be shared for benchmarking and research. Benchmarking compares your practice against peer data, and the research lane exports de-identified records only. Neither exposes another practice’s identified PHI.
